Summer is heating up, and your summer wardrobe needs to keep pace with the temperature. The newest colors for spring and summer come from opposite sides of the color wheel. To cool things down choose mint. To spice things up go with orange.
Mint jackets and cardigans are popping up everywhere. If you live in a warm region try something crocheted. It’s still popular this season, and an open lacy design won’t leave you broiling. A crochet inset in a knit top is another popular look. A mint fitted suit with matching hat will take you through Derby Days and beyond.
Orange will definitely command attention. Another trend this year is neon, and if you combine the two all eyes will be on you. Try a neon orange purse or a pair of sandals to add punch to last summer’s maxi dress. Neon orange shades will have you looking hot, yet keep your eyes cool.
Orange can be a difficult color to wear. Its cousin coral is a softer, pinker version that is flattering to almost anyone. Coral lips and fingertips are bright without being overpowering. Coral jewelry is always in style. Check out the local thrift shop or flea market for vintage faux coral pins and earrings. These funky items are still very affordable, and no coral was harmed in the making of them. Pair them with a coral lace sheath dress for a Mad Men vibe.
It’s not necessary to go out and buy all new stuff. Picking a few items from this summer’s palette and adding them to your wardrobe will allow you to stretch your clothing budget while still looking great.
